“I’ve been creating homes for as long as I can remember.”
I’m a mature, single empty nester with two cats, a love of beautiful things, and a lifelong need for creative adventures.
I’ve been creating spaces for almost as long as I can remember. My mother was a designer, and some of my earliest experiences were helping her create things for our family home. Later, I married someone in the military, and for the next twenty years we moved—a lot. We lived in military housing, rental homes and, occasionally, homes of our own.
Every time we moved, I recreated home for my family.
And that meant more than decorating a room. There were four different personalities, with four different sets of tastes, likes and needs. My job was to somehow bring those together and create a place where all of us could feel comfortable, safe and at home.
Along the way, friends and others began asking me to come alongside them and help create their homes, too. And everyone was different. Their styles weren't necessarily mine—and that was a good thing. It pushed me beyond what I would have chosen for myself and taught me how much I enjoy creating a space for the person who actually lives there.
I’ve created a wonderfully masculine den filled with football, basketball and baseball memorabilia while the upper floor of the very same home stayed true to its original late-1950s character. Completely different—and somehow, completely right for that home.
I’ve designed walls, painted rooms and remade furniture. During COVID, I even decided it was a perfectly reasonable time to learn how to rewire my antique chandelier. I’ve watched a little girl’s room become a bold and beautiful young woman’s room as she grew into herself.
All of those experiences eventually led me here, to The Placed Home.
What you’ll find here is a collection of the things I’ve created—real spaces I’ve worked on, ideas and digital designs, and the lessons I’ve picked up along the way. Eventually, I’ll also introduce you to some of the people who have supported, encouraged and inspired me through their own journeys of growth and creativity.
I hope you’ll stay awhile. Look around. And drop me a message—I’d love to hear how you’re doing, what you’re working on, and what you’d love your own space to become.
